The Art department at Headstart School supports students from Key Stage 2 all the way to Key Stage 5. At Headstart we run courses for students who want to take on BTEC qualifications, GCSE, A-Level as well as Entry Level courses. The courses are flexible to meet the needs of each student and teaching takes place in small groups which enables the best possible support for the student.

Art & Design plays a huge part of the Headstart Curriculum where students are encouraged to explore their ideas and key concepts through hands on practical activities such as model making, painting and printing. We are constantly developing our department and links with the local community.

Each year we participate in a carnival which is highly anticipated by the students and staff. It is a massive project and involves the school collaborating with each other as well as the community in order to create a float for entry. Trips are arranged for students who are studying Art, due to the small groups and outings can be a fairly regular activity.

Students can explore local galleries and exhibits in order to get direct inspiration for their work and to experience activities that may not have been possible previously for that student. Recent visits include the De La Warr Pavilion, Towner Gallery and Science Museum in Herstmonceux.
